Last December, we went to New Delhi, the capital of India, for a 10-day vacation. We preferred December as it's quite cold at that time and it suits us more. We went on several conducted tours in and around New Delhi, but something was just missing I thought. What might it be? I kept thinking and finally decided to explore the city by on our own. We were two people, so the means of transport had to be decided. Finally we decided to take an auto-rickshaw (similar to a tuk tuk). We struck a deal with Bunty, the driver, and told him to take us to all the places where the locals normally go. We started at 7 in the morning, and we first stopped at... what Bunty called Chorbazar, which literally means market of the thieves. This is a amazing place which you can visit only on Sundays. There are all kinds of secondhand goods, from shoes to digital cameras to tyres to secondhand clothes and antiques. I would highly recommend anybody to go and visit this place.

One word of caution: keep your mobiles and other belongings very safely.wink_smile

Delhi has a lot of historical charm and sees a lot of international travelers round the year. I am a local here, and yes, the earlier post mentions my favorite place- The Chorbazaar. It's a fantastic place, but have to keep guard on my purse, if I don't want to be pick-pocketed. Nakayu, beggars are there but not disturbing. It's not a botheration as such. There are many ancient monuments, which I too haven't visited........ so you might guess as well, what a treasure trove it might be !

regards.
