Metropole Hotel:
Known as Jin (1) Du(1) Jiu (1) Dian(4) in Mandarin. A lot of people do not know the English name. It's very near the Grand Emperor Hotel which is next to New Yaohan and Metropole is just across the road from Yaohan shopping centre. At eye level it may be hard to spot the name of the hotel as coming from Yaohan your view is blocked by some trees. If coming from the bus terminal walk towards Senado Square. You will cross about 2 traffic lights (please bear with me if this part is not very accurate as we got a tad lost as we had our 2 toddlers with us). You will see a Bank of China bank on the ground floor. Turn left and keep walking a few shops down. There is a restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel and there is quite a big fish tank in the hotel.
Hotel is a 3 star at best. No pool, rather old. However, clean enough for us and space is quite alright. Toilets reasonably clean with bath mat on the floor which was good for us since the kids will rush into the bath area which is quite dangerous if wet. Kettle provided with small fridge.
Hotel has free shuttle bus to the HK Macau Ferry. From there you can take your pick of the different free shuttle buses willing to take you to their hotels (with casinos).
Breakfast was included, same food everyday but it's quite alright as we only stayed 2 nights. You will see elderly persons having their yum cha (ala carte dim sum) sessions in the hotel and they will be seated in a different section. Their food looks much better.
View from our room was good, can see the lights from the Grand Emperor, Grand Lisboa, Lisboa Hotel. Near to Senado Square, 10-15 mins walk.
Please note: if you are coming by air to Macau, you can try to go to the carpark area and take the purple and yellow shuttle bus to the Grand Emperor hotel which saves you a bit of walking. Plus it's free. However, if you are going with kids, they will prob refuse to take you unless you are staying at the hotel. If you are kid-less, then no worries, they will just assume that you are going to gamble in the hotel and take you.
Metropark Hotel:
4 star hotel I believe.
Indoor pool rather small but we had it to ourselves. Again no casino in the hotel which is perfect. They also have the free shuttle service to the ferry. Breakfast was rather good. Room was clean and well equipped.
(note to parents: both hotels provide baby cots but too small for children above 20-24 mths old)
10-15 min walk to bus terminal to go to the airport (same as for Metropole) which is next to the Grand Lisboa and Lisboa Hotel. 20 min walk to Senado Square. Once you know how to orientate yourselves Macau is pretty small.
It's near to the Holiday Inn.
A better option of going to the airport - we actually carried everything and went to the bus terminal but were told by a cleaner that the MT1 and MT2 (going to airport) only operates from 4pm. We then scrambled to find the bus to the ferry terminal to take AP1 to the airport. So perhaps in the 1st place you just take the free shuttle to the ferry and then from there take the AP1 bus. It does not stop for long at the ferry terminal, just picks up drops off and goes, so be alert and watch out for it. MOP 3.30 to the airport.
Can save quite a bit on transport if you make use of the free shuttles. Flat fares on the public buses. Between MOP 2.50 to MOP 5 (to COloane). Great way to go, I reckon.
ferries to HK very often; not really a need to book.
There is no need to change to MOP, can just use HK dollar.
HOpe this info helps.
Wow, this is useful review,I think you can also write a review in the review section for these hotels. Coz' other travelers can see when they open the page of those hotels on Asiarooms.com
