Hi CutyGurly,
If you are travelling alone, I suggest you to stay in the center. ie orchard road.
This is a safe place and you can also enjoy shopping.
Hope above helps

I've been travelling to Singapore many times and never heard about unsafe areas.
I think all the places are safe.

Hi Alittlerain,
I have heard that an area called red light district is not safe for a single traveller. What is your comment on this ?

though I have never been to Singapore, but I can affirm that 'red light' districts can be potentially hazardous for girls. that's the area for sex trade, so...the rest you can guess.
have a safe journey.

One good thing about Geylang is that sex trade here is legal as long as you abide by rules and laws.
This is the place you , especially ' guys' , can express themeselves without worrying that that they are doing something against the laws.

i don't think it would be unsafe for girls or anyone else as long as you take care not to land into trouble by yourself. Singapore is an amazing destination and I haven't come across anybody with a negative remark. Why don't you go ahead and try out. I'm sure you won't complain.
Cheers!

Haha... be it robbery, murder or harrasments, there is not absolute safety in anywhere in the world. The onus is usually on oneself.
If you are talking about harrassments, u may wanna avoid Geylang, Changi and Desker areas. Coz other than the occasional looks from pple wondering if u r in the trade there maybe one or two who are actually bold enough to check out the rates...keke
Geylang, besides being well-known for the red light districts, is also one of the favourite haunts for locals to search for food.
U din specify the length of time u b in SIN nor budget. But if u r travelling alone and budget is not a constrain, any 3* and above hotel will b a safe bet.
