Well, I have been there a couple of times and I always get around by taxi. They are convenient and not so expensive.
However, even though Singapore is quite small, with the heat and the cars, I wouldn't walk around.

I agree with the above rep. You can easily take a taxi, it's convenient and not that expensive!

Hihi, u can take public transport like bus and mrt (train). I wld not encourage u to taxi as I dun find them cheap as a S'porean myself.

Parking is limited in town area so the best is still bus or mrt.

U can chose to stay near shopping malls near mrt stations like orchard, sommerset, cityhall so u are always walking distance for shopping.

If u want to go sentosa, just take mrt to Harbourfront mrt station. From habourfront, it's just 2 mrt stops from chinatown, and 1 more stop to clarke quay. The next stop from clarke quay is Dhoby Ghaut mrt station and the station itself interchanges to Orchard. All link and easy. U won't get lost taking mrt.

Zoo and Bird Park are not walking distance to mrt stations.

I think the other forumers have mentioned quite a few good locations for sightseeing.

Here are some museums in Singapore.

Singapore is quite vibrant and easy to get around. Taxi cab drivers are usually honest and you can trust them to bring you to the right place at the right price.

no you don't need to hire a car

it's cheaper if you just use public transport such as buses and the subway trains (we call it MRT)

Link 4 is also a Singapore Street Directory which may come in handy for you to plan your trips to places you want to visit
