There are several low cost airlines operate in Thailand such as Nok Air http://www.nokair.com), Air Asia http://www.airasia.com), one two go http://www.fly12go.com), they price are very competitive (sometimes).

Sometimes you can get good prices from those airlines if you spend sometimes to look at their websites. In general, the early you book then the cheaper the ticket will be. but sometimes some of them sell low price ticket at midnight (nok air used to this) and air Asia used to drop their price to 0 fare if you keep follow their information. most of the time, one two go focus their ticket to those go show traveler, sometimes I can find cheap ticket from this airline when I go directly to the airport and buy it directly at the counter.

This week Nok Air do their midnight sales again, so check them out!

"Sometimes you can get good prices from those airlines" yes, good recommendation. All of them are domestic flights, and also if you are looking for competitive cost of air ticket operator from Thailand to worldwide, thaifly travel is quite better. I used to buy air ticket to Singapore & Hong Kong for serveral times.

I would be careful if you are going to try 1 2 go airlines, cheap does not replace safety in my book. Research before you try any airline. Air Asia is a good choice but they only fly to limited areas.
