Getting around Chiang Mai is a cool experience i think...so the first choice is "Tuk Tuk" this is the real Thai experience with a small vehicle by beating the traffic , the second one is "songtaew" it's like a bus and taxi service rolled into one or you may simply hire a motorbike or bicycles and the last choice is ......your own feet !!!

I think by feet is the best choice to tour in the city if you do not mind that the weather may be hot. Plenty of things to do in the city like visting the temples, trying traditional food and seeing their life style. The walking street(night market)is one recommendation from me, you can buy souvenirs, handcraft and food there.
Pretty cool experience in Chiang Mai.

Not many people know that Chiang Mai offers a shuttle service for travelling around the city.
It costs 10 bht per trip.
You can stay in the shuttle as long as you want .
Very good and cheap if you can afford to wait 1 hour to wait for each shuttle.

Even the bus stops are not easily spotted , there are few of them that I can remeber.
One in fornt of Suan Dok Hostipal , one in front Wattano school.
There are two stops along Huay Kaew roads ; near The Kad Suan kaew.
Hope this will help.

The walled city is best seen if you can walk. There are many temples and walking streets which are worthwhile to visit. Outside the walled city, if you cross the wooden bridge, there are few more things which are really a photographer's delight. I went there a long time ago, so, won't be able to comment on the new developments. I do really hope Chiang Mai never really changes. It's the old world charm that will captivate you.

In my opinion i think u should go and buy later when u arrived as there're so many tour packages for u to choose also when a supply is more the price is less.
Don't forget to ask for a discount!

I so have to agree. Our time there we took a tuk tuk EVERYWHERE! Very inexpensive and always there when you need them.
