Hi, we are a Canadian family of 4. Looking to vacation somewhere in Thailand (prefer beach). We like quiet and don't need a bunch of action. We will be there sometime the end of January till the beginning of March. We would like a budget accommodation possibly in two different areas. Not sure even where we are heading yet, but heard good things about Krabi and Koh Sumui. Internet would be nice as to keep in touch with the peeps at home. Also what kind of budget do you think for hotel/ bungalow?
Any help or ideas or anything would be appreciated.

I think nowadays Koh Samui is not quiet anymore. It's quite busy and chaotic but it's still beautiful. Well, many Islands in the Southern of Thailand are quiet and beautiful.

Can u estimate the budget for this trip? It's easier for any suggestion. regular_smile

I think it really depends, in Koh Samui I think the Lamai beach is more quiet than Chaweng beach.

If you are looking for good/fun night life and nice meals bars you better be in Chaweng be cause it's one long street with all bars, restaurants and shops on it with some great places to eat.

Could you tell me the rough budget so I can recommend some hotels?

Well, one month is a pretty long time to stay in a hotel. I believe the best thing would be to go for a villa or an apartment. it would be drastically cheaper, but anyhow, for a vacation.... Thailand is lot cheaper than any other place in the world. However, you need to mention your budget.

Bon Voyage !

I guess I don't really know what kind of budget I am looking at. Last year we went to the Bahamas for 3 months and rented a two bdrm condo for $1200 month. We did most of our own cooking in the unit. I was thinking the monthly accomadations in thailand might be considerably less expensive.
We don't need or want crazy nightlife. But I think we might go stir crazy if it was too quiet.
thanks again

If yoh have one month, don't just stay in Thailand. Why don't you try and explore some of the neighbouring countries? There are lots of cheap air tickets available from Bangkok with all the low cost airlines like Air Asia or Nok Air. Also the traditional airlines flying into Thailand have some cheap deals available. Try http://www.moxtravel.com to compare the airfares and flights of airlines. You can also book your air ticket online. And the hotels you can get on asiarooms.com of course. My secret tip: Try Myanmar!!!
