Didn't mean to argue but i just went there a few days before and i'm sure u can't just sitting on the boat and shop but u need to walk along the pathwalk to shop.
But u can rent a boat at 200 baht/hr with our without bargeman
Anyway this market is a good place to visit esp. for those who love photography, the market devided into 4 separate part, each represent each part of Thailand (North, Central, North-Eastern, and South). Most of the shops selling handycrafts, traditional cloths and things like teek flame, etc.
And for those who would like to take chance of wearing Thai traditional dress at a cheap price, shouldn't miss this as u can have your photo on Thai dress with a very reasonable price at about 10$ (They will burn your photoes on to the disc for u to keep it as well as a copy of 1 photo)
Also the market provides some Traditional show like Thai classical dance but i missed it cuz i've been there on the week day and there is only one show around 4pm. which is too late for me. But i think during the week end, there're about 2-3 shows perform and the market will be more clouded as well.
To go there is very easy, just drive along Sukhumvit Rd on the way up to Sataheeb district not so far from South Pattaya Outlet mall, the market is there at your left hand side beside the street.
PS.will share u my photoes later
