Travelers to Ecuador should acquire some working knowledge of Spanish language before arrival.

A phrase book would also be helpful, but then listening skills are equally necessary to understand the language. However, if you go there just like that, a good option would be to watch Spanish movies in the theaters to get a good experience.

One more thing, if you happen to be in Quito, you'll notice that there are more hostels than hotels.

Bien Viaje.

Do most of Spanish people speak English? Or do they rarely speak English?

Hi,

been following the forum for quite a while. As far as I know, English is fast growing popularity or may be a necessity, but better than what it was 3 or 4 years back. However, most of the Spanish speaking don't speak English which can be quite a botheration for people who cannot understand Spanish.

So, do carry a phrasebook if not a translator!

Regards.

I do agree with the phrasebook part, sometimes I just don't know how to pronounce some words in foreign languages,
